35-year-old woman held for abetting mother-in-law’s suicide

The Amboli police recently arrested a 35-year-old woman on abetment to suicide charges of her 73-year-old mother-in-law, who passed away after consuming poison, but before dying gave her statement to police that her daughter-in-law forced her into taking the extreme step.

According to the Amboli police, the deceased, 73-year-old Vanita Nachre, lived in a SRA building in Jogeshwari West. Nachre’s younger son to whom the arrested accused woman was married to, passed away about 15 years ago.

Both women lived together with the rest of the family in their home in the SRA building. The Amboli police said few years ago the daughter-in-law and mother-in-law had filed non-cognisable cases against each other. The arrested woman had also filed a case of domestic violence against the deceased Nachre and her family members, which is going on in court.

On October 25, Nachre committed suicide by consuming rat poison. She was admitted to a hospital where she passed away on November 5. The police had recorded her statement when she was alive. She told police that she took the extreme step owing to harassment by her daughter-in-law.
