Mumbai court grants bail to accused in firing case as prosecution doesn’t examine a single witness

A 23-year-old man was granted bail by the Dindoshi sessions court recently.The court granted Shahid Qureshi bail, who was in jail since 2015, after observing that the prosecution did not examine a single witness after charges were framed against him on March 23, 2017. Judge DK Bhende heard the bail plea.

Qureshi was held for his alleged role in opening fire in Sakinaka in 2015. He was arrested with another accused Gangasagar alias Majnu Yadav, a history-sheeter.

According to the police, on July 1, 2015, Yadav and his two accomplices allegedly shot at a person at Khairani Road and fled. Cops said the victim was a witness in an assault case registered against Yadav.

Qureshi’s bail plea was accepted a month after Yadav and he were given a clean chit by the Andheri metropolitan court in an Indian Arms Act case registered against them, said Qureshi’s advocate Bhanudas Jagtap. While Qureshi’s previous bail plea was rejected in July 2016, the third accused in the shooting case got bail.

Judge Bhende, while dictating the order, said, “No firearm is sized from him (Qureshi). Since more than two years he is behind the bars.”
