Mumbai cops look for sisters ‘entrapped’ by Shifu Sunkriti cult leader Sunil Kulkarni

The Mumbai police are searching for two sisters whose parents allege that they were entrapped by Sunil Kulkarni, the leader of a cult called Shifu Sunkriti accused of running a sex and drugs racket.

The police believe the two women, who are residents of Malad in Mumbai and in their twenties, were with Kulkarni till just before they arrested him on Thursday.

The police want to record the statements of the two women. Kulkarni had claimed that their parents had ill-treated them and that he had only helped. Searches at Kulkarni’s rented Bandra residence had netted a mobile phone and pen drive with sex clips.

These showed several young men and women, who the police suspect could be from Delhi where Kulkarni ran a similar racket. The police were also planning to identify and contact these people.

The police suspect the pills to treat depression they found at Kulkarni’s house were the same as those the Malad couple found in the purse of one of their daughters. “We need to look for these two girls. Only they can reveal the entire truth,” said an officer investigating the case.

According to police, the daughters of the complainants left their home after they came under Kulkarni’s influence.

They said Kulkarni was a visiting faculty at the college of the elder daughter, a law graduate, who later introduced her younger sister, a student of architecture, to him.

During searches at Kulkarni’s residence, police said, they did not find any educational degree to prove he was a doctor, though they found letter heads and visiting cards describing him as one.

They couldn’t find his name on the registers of the Medical Council of India or the Nagpur-based institute he claimed to have graduated from.

His finances would also be probed as police said they found signed cheque books and debit and credit cards that did not belong to Kulkarni at his residence. The police are checking if he extorted money from the owners of the cards.
