Lady Don Karima Shaikh booked for threatening to kill police witness against her

Police in Mumbai have arrested Karima Shaikh, known as the 'Lady Don', and two others for allegedly threatening a witness in a murder case. Shaikh, who has over 98 cases registered against her, was seen chasing the witness through the streets with a knife before police intervened. The witness had previously testified against Shaikh in a case filed by former corporator Parmeshwar Kadam. Shaikh has been charged with murder, extortion and land grabbing, among other offences.

Kidnapping widow, son was an act of revenge: Police

80-year-old widow Rohini Kamble and her son Vishal were kidnapped in Mumbai over a property dispute. The main accused, Pranay Ramteke, a close relative, allegedly wanted a share of the family's five-acre land and bungalow in Pachgaon. Ramteke paid around ?10 lakh to the other accused to kidnap the mother-son duo. Rohini was rescued by the police, but Vishal is suspected to have been killed. Five people have been arrested in the case so far.

Cyclone Tauktae: Barge’s missing master booked for ‘negligence’

Mumbai Police booked master of the barge P305, Rakesh Ballav, for culpable homicide, causing grievous hurt and negligence. Ballav is one of 15 people who were on board P305 and are still missing, four days after Tauktae barreled through India’s western coast.

Cyclone Tauktae: At least 26 dead on Arabian Sea barge amid rescue ops

The “extremely severe” cyclone, the most powerful one to barrel through the region in over two decades, caused gusts of wind up to 210kmph and nine-metre waves as it raced past Mumbai and made landfall in Gujarat on Monday night.

In a challenging air and sea mission, rescuers secured 180 of the 261 crew members from P305 by Tuesday evening, about 20 hours after they were forced to jump into the extremely rough sea after the barge sank.(via Reuters)

A senior CBI officer said the report is based on the evidence collected so far during various search operations and on the basis of statements of several witnesses.
