A day after a 27-year-old man attempted suicide on the Bandra Worli sea link after getting off a taxi, the Mumbai police held advisory meetings with the taxi unions on Thursday.
Pradeep Yadav had left home on Wednesday after a fight with his family. He took a cab to the sea link and asked the taxi driver to stop near the waterfront. At 3.10am, Yadav, a Bhayander resident, got off the taxi and climbed over the railing of the sea link. The suicide bid was foiled as the supervisor, Chetan Kadam, was alerted by an alarm, thanks to high-tech CCTV surveillance. After 25 minutes of convincing, the supervisor managed to hold Yadav and pull him back to safety.
After a counseling session, Yadav’s father was informed about the incident and he was allowed to go home. The Worli police have made a diary entry of the incident. No case was registered.
Vinay Kulkarni, senior inspector at Worli police station said, “We told the unions to spread awareness among drivers, so they don’t stop the vehicle in the middle of the sea link. A similar warning was issued in the past too.”
