Konkan trip for Ganpati? You may be able to board express trains from Mumbai’s Diva railway station

The move, if it goes through, will benefit lakhs of commuters who are currently forced to travel to Thane or Panvel to board Konkan-bound trains

Those heading to Konkan from Dombivli, Kalyan or Diva can soon rejoice.

Festive-special Konkan-bound trains and a few express trains may soon halt at Diva railway station.

The move, if it goes through, will benefit lakhs of commuters who are currently forced to travel to Thane or Panvel to board Konkan-bound trains.

The railway authority will make a feasibility report on the plan in the next few days.

“The railway ministry will check the technical feasibility soon,” said an officer from railway ministry, who did not wish to be named.

The demand for halt of Konkan trains and other long-distance trains at Diva was made to railway minister Suresh Prabhu by Kalyan MP Shrikant Shinde in a meeting recently. Shinde said the minister responded in the affirmative.

“During the meeting, the railway minister gave a nod to the demands and agreed to look into the technicalities,”said Shinde.

Diva junction is one of the connecting stations between Kalyan, Mumbai, Panvel and Vasai railway route. Diva is also known as the entry point of the Konkan railway. However, only two Konkan-bound trains halt at Diva station; the Diva-Savantwadi and Dadar-Ratnagiri mail trains.
