A BJP corporator in Mumbai wants pictures of martyred soldiers to be put up in government offices.
In a bid to infuse nationalism among citizens, corporator Ram Barot sought to move a motion in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) which is likely to be discussed on Thursday.
In his proposal, Barot has stated the move will make citizens respect the soldiers’ sacrifice for the country. He has also said that in this way citizens can pay homage to them.
“I got this idea when I was speaking to a retired amry person,” Barot told HT.
A six-time corporator from Malad in western suburbs, Barot has said the state government should name a committee that decides on the pictures. “Tomorrow, there should not be a fight on how only some soldiers’ pictures have been put up and not others’. That is why, it is essential to form a committee that looks into it,” he added.
This is not the first time Barot has put up a proposal to stir patriotism among fellow countrymen.
In 2016, he had demanded that all BMC employees and civic school students must wear khadi on Friday, as mark of respect towards Mahatma Gandhi who was assassinated on a Friday.
