Also, former minister Anand Sharma asked for a white paper on the country’s finances.

Reiterating the Congress’ demand for a complete farm loan waiver in Maharashtra, Chavan said, “The BJP government should rethink its stand and call a special session of the legislature to grant a loan waiver for Maharashtra’s farmers.” Chavan was speaking at a press conference in Mumbai, where Sharma and chief of Congress’ Mumbai unit Sanjay Nirupam was also present.

The former chief minister also criticized chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Minister of State for Agriculture Sadabhau Khot for trying to divide farmers.

Meanwhile, Sharma targeted the central government by saying the BJP is celebrating its three-year anniversary with great fervour when the country’s finances are in doldrums, unemployment is high and farmers are being driven to commit suicide.

“The BJP should tell people exactly how many of its pre-election promises it has been able to implement. At the same time, the government should publish a white paper on the country’s finances,” Sharma said. He added that the government has not fulfilled even a single promise and only paints a rosy picture through glossy advertisements using public money and brands anyone a traitor who raises questions on its governance.
