Dahisar honour killing: Bombay HC directs police to continue protecting wife, sister-in-law of slain man

The woman said her husband was abducted and assaulted by two men on March 23. He uccumbed to his injuries two days later

The Bombay high court on Tuesday said police would continue to protect two sisters from Dahisar after one of them lost her husband to honour killing.

A division bench of justices Ranjit More and Anuja Prabhudessai had granted police protection to Mamta (name changed) and her younger sister on April 7.

Mamta had approached the high court saying she was married off when she was about three years old. In February 2016, she, however, married a man of her choice despite opposition from her parents and other relatives. Neither her parents nor the parents of her first husband approved of the marriage.

She said that on March 23, her second husband was abducted and badly assaulted by two people. He succumbed to his injuries two days later. Acting on Mamta’s complaint, the Dahisar police registered a case and arrested four of her relatives in connection with the abduction and murder.

Mamta had approached the high court seeking police protection for herself and her sister, fearing threats to their lives. The court directed senior inspector police inspector, Dahisar police, to protect the sisters.
