Dahisar residents collect funds for Uri and Pathankot martyrs

The Rustomjee Regency building decided to collect money for the Army Welfare Fund Battle Casualties which accepts donations for the families of soldiers who die in battle.

While Navratri celebrations took place, a group of nine senior citizens sat collecting the funds till Dussehra. “The money can be deposited in an account meant for army funds in any branch of the Syndicate Bank. It is not just an initiative, but a responsibility to give our share in serving them, so they could serve us. The road has to cut both ways,” said Amrutlal Patel, 67, secretary of the senior citizen’s group.

“There are 158 senior citizens in the complex. Between them, they donated Rs1.5 lakh, which is almost 40 per cent of the total funds collected by the society during the festival. The maximum contribution by a donor was Rs.21,500,” Patel added.

The housing complex collected four lakh rupees during the festival. “The figures are likely to go up. The residents would again be asked to contribute some money if they wish to and the amount would be donated into the bank account on Monday,” said Manish Gogri, secretary of Rustomjee Regency, who is also a survivor of the 7/11 Mumbai train blasts.
