Delhi man held for duping Mumbai doctor of ₹6 lakh

The conman told the doctor that the policy for Rs15 lakh was to mature in three years but would lapse unless he paid the premium of Rs 2.8 lakh for it. The doctor assumed that it was some policy that he had forgotten about and transferred the money to Sharma’s account. (Representational photo)

The 31-year-old accused Harish Sharma posed had made a fake Delhi voter id card and used it to make a fake pan card which he used to open a bank account under a false name. He then started to work with a gang who would dupe people into believing that an old insurance policy of theirs was going to lapse unless they paid up soon. Sharma would let the gang use his bank account and would instead be given a commission of 10% on the total amount of each transaction.

On investigating the case, the EOW officials found details of about 50 transactions and over Rs 1 crore in the account. Sharma and his aides were earlier arrested by Delhi police in a similar case.
