‘Don’t give them bail, Kamala Mills fire accused may flee’

The accused had filed separate bail application claiming it was an unfortunate incident and an ‘act of God’.

The prosecution on Wednesday objected to the bail pleas of Mojo’s Bistro owners – Yug Pathak and Yug Tulli – arrested in connection with the Kamala Mills fire on the grounds that they would escape from the country.

Fourteen people died as two rooftop restaurants – Mojo’s Bistro and 1Above – were gutted in the fire on December 29. The owner of the mills, Ramesh Govani, director Ravi Bhandari and the owner of hookah supply firm Nirvana, Utkarsh Pandey, too have moved bail pleas.

The police on Wednesday filed their reply to all pleas, objecting on similar grounds that they are likely to influence the investigation and threaten the witnesses. The police claimed the probe in the case is going on and they are in the process of verification of documents submitted by the accused in order to get requisite permissions. The police, in their reply, stated they have found flaws in the documentation so far.

After accepting the reply from the police, the court is scheduled to hear the arguments on Monday.
