FIR against two in Mumbai who duped 53 persons from Belgaon of ₹31.80 lakh promising jobs in Dubai

The office of the accused in Goregaon West is closed.

The Goregaon police, on Monday, registered a first information report (FIR) against two men who allegedly duped 53 job aspirants from Belgaon of ₹31.80 lakh on the false pretext of providing them with jobs in Dubai.

The complainant, Itiyaz Yargatti, 36, who runs a travel office in Belgaon, got in touch with the two accused, Mohamed Danish Khan and Khayal Mohamed Khan via the internet.

The duo used to run an office in Mitha Nagar in Goregaon (West) and claimed to be able to provide jobs in Dubai. These jobs included working at restaurants, plumbing, construction work, mason work etc.

Mohamed and Khayal tricked the complainant into being part of their scam by using him to collect money from youths interested in Dubai jobs. Yargatti then sent the money to the two accused between December 2017 and January of this year.

In return, the complainant was also given visas which turned out to be fakes. The scam started to come to light in January when the applicants were getting ready to travel from Belgaon to Mumbai. They were informed that the air tickets had been cancelled, following which the duo cut all communication with the complainant.

“The office of the accused is closed. We are trying to trace them. We will find out if they have a prior criminal record and if there are more victims,” said senior police inspector of Goregaon police station Dhanji Nalwade.
