HC raps BMC for giving ‘insecticide-mixed water’ to Mumbai street food vendors’

There are 15,970 wells across the city. The insecticide department treats the water and releases guppy fish in it to control breeding of mosquitoes

The Bombay high court recently expressed concern over the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s “distribution of insecticide-mixed water through tankers” to almost all street food vendors across south Mumbai, even though they have categorised it as non-potable.

“This is very dangerous,” said a division bench of chief justice Manjula Chellur and justice Girish Kulkarni, while commenting on the affidavit filed by the insecticide department of BMC in response to a public interest litigation.
