Hindustan Times had reported on Thursday that the school asked parents to pay Rs1,000 in cash for the school sports day. It didn’t accept cheques or online payment, although parents are struggling to access cash after the government scrapped Rs500 and Rs1,000 notes

Following the report, the school issued another circular on Thursday morning allowing parents to pay the entire sum online. “ Taking into consideration the requests by several parents with respect to collection of sport participation amount, we would like to inform you that an online payment mode is being created,” read the circular issued by the school principal.

“We are relieved that the school has finally allowed online payment,” said one of the parents. “Cash is becoming difficult with the demonetisation decision.”

The circular states that the entire amount of Rs1,000 will be paid online only. Parents will receive an SMS once the payment mode is active. The date of payment has also been extended from November 22 to November 30. But the school has refused to accept cheques. “We don’t accept cheques as 80% parents give cheques that bounce,” said the school principal.
