Kolkata film-maker accused of sexually harassing Mumbai actor gets bail

Aditya Roy has been accused of misusing actor’s details to open a Facebook account and posting vulgar comments

A 19-year-old film director from Kolkata, Aditya Roy, surrendered before a magistrate court on Tuesday. Roy was wanted by the Oshiwara police for allegedly defaming a 23-year-old actor. He allegedly misused her photos and personal details to create a Facebook account and post vulgar comments on the profile.

An officer from Oshiwara police station said, “We had sent a team to arrest the accused from Kolkata, but he fled his residence. His lawyer helped him to surrender before the Andheri court on Tuesday. The court granted him bail after we sought his custody.”

As per the FIR lodged at the Oshiwara police station against Roy on November 21, 2017, Roy was booked under section 354A (sexual harassment), 500 (defamation) 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of Indian Penal Code and 66C (identity theft) of the IT Act.

In her complaint, based on which the FIR was filed, the actor said she met Roy two years ago and was offered a role in the short film he was directing. In 2017, she went to Kolkata for a 10-day shoot, but returned to Mumbai soon after the two fell out.
