Latur duo nabbed for promising admission via CM’s quota for ₹3.5 lakh

Investigation is on to find out if more victims have been duped by the duo

The Mumbai crime branch recently arrested two persons from Latur for duping the complainant of Rs3.5 lakh by promising admission for his son in a prominent South Mumbai college through ‘Chief Minister’s’ quota.

The accused lured the complainant by claiming that there is a special Chief Minister’s quota and would be able reserve a seat in any college of his choice for FYJC (Arts) if he paid Rs 3.5 lakhdcuffs. (HT file photo)

According to officers from Unit-I, accused Balaji Kamble, 25, a college dropout and Sunil Dandge, 25, a graduate are from Latur, acquainted the complainant, a resident of Mumbai, through their mutual friend. This mutual friend told the complainant that the two had ensured several admissions at a Latur college and have a clout in Mantralaya as well.

The duo lured the complainant by claiming that there is a special Chief Minister’s quota and would be able reserve a seat in any college of his choice for FYJC (Arts) if he paid Rs 3.5 lakh. The complainant’s son had scored 75% in SSC. The complainant paid the said amount in June, but when the admission did not happen he tried contacting the duo. However, no of them were reachable.

Investigation is on to find out if more victims have been duped by the duo. However, a crime branch officer said nothing of this sort has surfaced so far.
