A Mumbai resident had filed a public interest litigation, saying he objected to dialogues that cast aspersions on the courts’ integrity

The Bombay high court on Thursday refused to interfere with the scheduled release of Haseena Parkar, a Bollywood movie depicting the life of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar’s late sister. The film will be released this Friday.

“Let the movie be released and let people decide whether it contains anti-national dialogues. People will not watch the movie if they find that it contains explicit material,” said the division bench of chief justice Manjula Chellur and justice Nitin Jamdar.

The bench was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Santacruz resident Zuber Khan, 42, who challenged the Central Board of Film Certification’s decision to permit the film to be publicly exhibited.

The petitioner said he objected to dialogues that cast aspersions on the courts’ integrity.

His counsel, advocate Sandip Sherkhane, sought an urgent hearing on the petition on Friday, contending that real people were named and scenes from real life were depicted in the movie.

The counsel for the film’s producers said those whose lives were depicted in the film had consented to this. He asked why the petitioner, who was completely unconnected to Kaskar’s family, was aggrieved by the use of real names and scenes.
