Maharashtra medical admissions: Bombay high court adjourns DMER review plea on state quota till Thursday

A court order allowed students who have cleared class 10 from other states to claim a seat under the state quota.

The Aurangabad bench of Bombay high court on Wednesday adjourned a review petition filed by state Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) until Thursday morning following demand for extra time by respondents. The petition was filed on Tuesday against a court order which allowed students who have cleared class 10 from other states to claim a seat under the state quota.

“Lawyers representing 300 children (who cleared class 10 from other states) asked for time to go through our petition so the hearing is now adjourned to Thursday,” said Dr Pravin Shingare, director, DMER. He added that as of now, the state has already prepared the first seat allotment list, which they might release on Thursday, following orders from the state medical education minister Girish Mahajan. “If the minister allows us to display the list, we will do so by Thursday evening,” he added.

According to the admission schedule released by DMER, the first seat allotment list was to be released on July 25. However, the same was delayed on Mahajan’s orders. On July 7, the court had relaxed the domicile rule, saying that students who appeared for class 10 exams in other states will be eligible for seats under the state quota.
