Man kills three daughters aged four and one, ends life

A 40-year-old man committed suicide by consuming poison and made his three daughters – a four-year-old girl and two one-year-olds - do the same at Sakinaka on Saturday.

A 40-year-old man poisoned three of his daughters before killing himself at his Sakinaka home on Saturday morning over a property dispute, the police said.

According to the Sakinaka police, Anherao decided to end his life in the morning. Early Saturday, he sent his wife away. After his wife left, he forced his three daughters to consume poison and later consumed the same. (HT)

Mangesh Anerao lived with his wife Madhura and four children —a seven-year-old son Ameya, a four-year-old daughter Harshita and one-year-old twins Ananya and Arohi — in Mohali village in Sakinaka. His neighbours said he was involved in a fight over property with his father and older brother.

After an initial probe, the Sakinaka police found Anerao asked Madhura and Ameya to get money from an acquaintance in Virar at 6.30am on Saturday. He had even called Madhura’s sister to their house the previous night so she could accompany them.

In the suicide note the police found, Anerao said he poisoned his daughters as he did not want to leave them behind. He wrote he could not get himself to kill his son and wife. “Once Madhura, her sister and Ameya left, Anerao killed his daughters and committed suicide,” said Avinash Dharmadikari, senior inspector Sakinaka police station.

The probe showed Anerao called his sister, Usha, at 7am and asked her to come over. Usha said she arrived at 8.15am, found the door unlocked and the four of them lying motionless on the floor.

Officials are investigating if he called Usha after killing his daughters. The police have sent the bodies to Rajawadi Hospital for an autopsy. “We have only been able to establish that a property dispute may have been the reason behind the suicide. We will register a case of murder against Anerao,” Dharmadikari said.

Neighbours said Anerao was an alcoholic, and that he had been unemployed for several years. One neighbour said he did not interact with the locals much and had a bad temper.

The police have collected samples of tea and milk and sent them to the Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis. The police suspect Anerao bought the poison, probably a pesticide. The police found the poison in a white container near their bodies.
