Man uses fake name to get job in SoBo café, steal Rs1 lakh, real contact on resumé leads cops to him

As the con man had worked at a 7-star hotel earlier, his qualifications impressed the owner of the Mumbai café

A con man used a fake name to get a job at a café in a posh mall in South Mumbai, after which he stole Rs1 lakh from his employer. However, police contacted the genuine employer he had listed on a reference on his resumé, which helped them nab him in Madhya Pradesh earlier this week.

The accused, Ravish Dhurke, 33, is from Bhalaghat district in MP. As he had worked at a 7-star hotel earlier, his qualifications impressed the owner and he was hired on May 25.

However, on the second day of work, he stole Rs1 lakh from the counter and fled. NM Joshi police said he had given his employer a fake name and address “Dhurke had introduced himself as Vinod Mevalal Uike and told the café owner that he was a Kandivli resident. He did this as he wanted the job just so he could steal cash,” said an officer.

The day after his employer handed him the café’s keys, he entered the café at 7 am, walked towards the counter and left with the cash, confirmed CCTV camera footage.

“We approached the 7-star hotel he had listed on his resumé. The staff gave us his real identity and documents he had submitted to them,” said an officer.

Dhurke’s school leaving certificate showed cops where he was from. A team was sent to his house and he was nabbed. Dhurke was produced in court and remanded in judicial custody on Friday.
