Mumbai man promises 200 people jobs in Gulf, caught fleeing with ₹40 lakh

A man who promised 200 people lucrative jobs in Dubai and Saudi Arabia and cheated them of Rs40.2 lakh was arrested just as he was boarding a flight at the Bangalore airport.

According to the RAK Marg police, Rashid had recently rented an apartment in Sewri. He would tell his victims he was a Navy Doctor and was employed with the CBI for five years. He told them he owned large properties in West Asian countries, and showed them pictures of bungalows and properties to lure them.

One of his victims was his neighbour at Sewri. Shabeera Abdul Gani Aaga told HT, “Rashid recently rented an apartment next to ours, so during Eid, I would send him meals as he was staying alone. He then showed me pictures of his Dubai property claiming it was his and asked if I fancied a job in Saudi Arabia.”

Rashid collected all their passports and fled. “Early on July 24, I saw him leaving with a bag . He told me he was going to get the tickets and visas for us. He asked me to be ready,” said Aaga.

When Rashid did not come back, a case was registered. The police got a tip-off Rashid was at Bangalore Airport.They told the local police, who caught him as he was entering the flight.

The police recovered 200 passports from his Sewri apartment. He also had cases at police stations in Kerala and in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Rashid was booked under section 420 of the IPC. The RAK Marg police team was in Kerala on Thursday to hand him over.
