The Mumbai police plan to beef up security on roads leading to banks and ATMs, to ensure there is no law and order situation over the weekend, when people will come out in large numbers to get their old currency notes exchanged or deposit them.

Plain-clothed policemen have been deployed at approach roads leading to banks. “We don’t want thieves to take advantage of the situation,” said a high-ranking police officer.

The police have urged people to stay vigilant after withdrawing the money. Police stations have also briefed private security guards deployed at the bank to ensure the functioning is smooth. “People are a bit impatient. We have briefed the guards to co-operate with them,” said the officer.

The police will also beef up night patrolling and will resort to necessary checks of suspicious activities are found. The Mumbai police control room is also closely monitoring the situation on roads and is also scanning CCTV cameras installed at strategic locations in the city.
