In a meeting on Wednesday, municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta assigned works to various officials, who are expected to complete the task in the next six months.

Some of the prominent works include hedge plantation (planting shrubs) between National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) and Tambe Chowk, beautification of Tambe Chowk itself, refurbishment of the Parsi gate and all bus-stops on the promenade. Mehta has also assigned the work of the restoration of a fountain below Princess Street flyover, and repair work of the parapet of the promenade.

A senior civic official, present at the meeting, said, “The works have been assigned to deputy municipal commissioners and ward officers. The commissioner has called for a meeting again in the next 8-10 days to discuss the action plan.”

The restoration is a collective effort by BMC, residents of the area along with architect Ratan Batliboi and local BJP corporator, Harshita Narvekar.

One of the suggestions from the residents includes creating a viewing gallery near NCPA . Civic officials are still looking at these major suggestions. Officials said that they are also being careful to not hinder the view of the sea from the promenade.

Apart from aesthetic works that will be undertaken by BMC, officials are also looking at surfacing of a pipeline under Princess Street flyover, repairing a toilet opposite the Air India building in Nariman Point, and looking at solutions relating to smoothening of traffic, officials said.
