Mumbai senior citizen in need of job cheated of Rs7.82 lakh

A complaint has been filed at Nehru Nagar police station by Govind Talwar from Shramjivi Nagar in Chembur.

A 62-year-old man from Chembur was cheated of Rs7.82 lakh by a man who promised to get him a job as a manager.

A complaint has been filed at Nehru Nagar police station by Govind Talwar from Shramjivi Nagar in Chembur. The police stated that the accused met Talwar at the latter’s residence, and promised to recruit him as a manager in a private firm. Subsequently, he asked Talwar to deposit money in different bank accounts. A total sum of Rs7.82 lakh was taken by the accused from September 2017 till date.

Talwar suspected he was being cheated after the accused went incommunicado, and decided to approach the police. “Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under section 420 for cheating of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections under the Information Technology (IT) act,” said a police officer. The police have acquired the details of the accused, and are trying to trace him.

There have been several recent incidents in which senior citizens are being targeted. An 85-year-old man was recently cheated to the tune of Rs4.99 lakh on January 9 in an online fraud by an unidentified person who posed as a banking officer. A complaint in this regard has been filed by MVV Swami, a resident of Raheja Acropolis in Chembur. The caller posed as a manager of a private bank, where the complainant has an account, and sought his banking details.
