Mumbai university exam results: over 2.7 lakh answer papers are yet to be corrected

Two days after the University of Mumbai’s deadline to complete assessments of its exams, over 2.7 lakh answer papers are still pending evaluation, according to data made public by officials on Wednesday.

The state government and university chancellor Ch Vidyasagar Rao had asked the university to declare the results by July 31.

“Assessment had picked up last week when the university had declared non-instructional days for all courses. With teachers once again busy with regular lectures, very few of them are reporting for on-screen assessment,” said an official. On Wednesday, 1,719 of more than 15,000 eligible teachers conducted online assessment. “This is slowing the pace of assessment and moderation,” he added.

Of the 4.77 lakh students who appeared for 477 exams between March and May this year, only 47,693 students have received their results in the past two months. The remaining 4.30 lakh students are still waiting for their results. The majority of these students (2.13 lakh) are from the commerce faculty, followed by 67,822 from the technology faculty, 59,111 from the arts faculty and 42,719 and 47,356 from science and law faculties.

Following several complaints by students, the university has decided to set up a help desk on the ground floor of the Examination House in Kalina, to address their concerns.

“Students who need urgent confidential statement of marks for submission to universities abroad or those who want to appear for competitive tests or for job opportunities, we will extend our help to all,” said a statement released by MU late on Wednesday evening.
