Mumbai woman heading to her brother’s home on Raksha Bandhan run over by bus, dies

A 42-year-old woman from Kopar Khairane was run over by an NMMT bus on Sion-Panvel highway on Monday.

Kamal Shinde was going to her brother’s place to celebrate raksha bandhan on a bike. Her 52-year-old landlord was riding it. He suffered injuries.

According to the police, Shinde stayed at a rented house with her family. Her husband was at work, so Dilip Goel, her landlord, with whom the family had good relations, volunteered to take her to her brother’s place at Kamothe.

“As they were crossing Belpada, the bus, which was also moving in the same direction, hit them from behind. Both fell down on the road. The bus ran her over,” said Dilip Kale, senior police inspector of Kharghar police station.

Kale said, “The road was not in bad condition. Onlookers said that the driver was speeding and lost control. The impact of the accident was such that the bus went up to the pavement after the accident.”
