The city woke up to cloudy skies on Wednesday morning, and parts of central Mumbai such as Dadar, Parel, Matunga, and Lalbaug saw a light drizzle. As the day progressed, however, the clouds dispersed and by afternoon it was a bright, sunny day.

The weather bureau attributed cloudy conditions to a “trough over central to south India”. “The weather system from northeast Madhya Pradesh up to south peninsular region is pulling moisture from the Arabian Sea and has led to a cloud cover along the entire Konkan coast,” said Bishwambhar Singh, chief public relations officer, Regional Meteorological Centre, India Meteorological Department (IMD).
A cyclonic storm Mekunu, currently close to Oman and Yemen over southwest Arabian Sea, is increasing in intensity and turning into a severe cyclonic storm, and also affecting weather conditions on the west coast. “This system also leads to cloud cover along India’s west coast,” said Singh. However, there will be no direct impact of the cyclonic storm over India, he added.
The cloud cover during the early hours of the morning raised night temperatures to one degree Celsius above normal levels, with Colaba recording 28 degree Celsius and Santacruz 27.5 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature recorded was 33.7 degrees Celsius at Santacruz and 34 degrees Celsius (almost at normal mark) in Colaba (0.5 above the normal mark).
