Motorists can soon expect better east-west connectivity along one of the busiest stretches in Borivli (West). The work on the proposed 121-crore Kora Kendra flyover, which has been planned to decongest the area around the Borivli station, is likely to start in October.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has planned to construct the flyover, which will connect to the existing FM Cariappa flyover, in Borivli (West). Once complete, motorists will get a direct connectivity to Link Road via the Kora Kendra flyover after descending from the FM Cariappa flyover.

The flyover will run from the stretch near the Kora Kendra ground and bypass two busy junctions – Kalpana Chawla Chowk and Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Chowk– and connect to the Link Road.

The civic body floated tenders for the 121-crore project and the proposal is likely to come up in the BMC’s standing committee meeting by July for approval, after the bridges department finalises the bids. Motorists plying towards Link Road from the Western Express Highway (WEH) take the FM Cariappa flyover which ends at SV Road, and usually face traffic jams at the two junctions. It takes up to 20 to 25 minutes to reach Link Road, said a senior civic official from the bridges department.
