Narwaria’s lawyer Prashant Maggu had 2 approached the special NIA judge VV Patil on December, alleging that the accused had been beaten up by the jail staff over some altercation.

When Narwaria was produced before the court through video conference on December 8, he had both his hands plastered and his face was swollen. On being asked, Narwaria had named four officers for physically assaulting him. The court had ordered the jail authority to take him for medical examination at JJ Hospital and asked the doctor to submit the report.

The court, however, noted that the doctor did not submit the report and had only submitted a summary of the case. “Though the court had directed the medical officer to examine the accused and submit a detailed report, the medical officer, Dr Amol Bhikane, has not followed the orders. He has simply submitted the originals of the short case record in a sealed envelope without examining the accused. It appears that the officer has disobeyed the court’s order. In my view, it is necessary to take legal action against him,” said the order of the special court.
