The ministry revised its refund procedure for tickets booked over the counter from November 9 to 11 — the refund for cancellations above Rs10,000 , booked during these three days, will be done through cheque or electronic clearing service (ECS), a ministry circular issued on Thursday said.

Passengers also have to furnish PAN card details while booking or cancelling tickets worth Rs50,000 or more.

Meanwhile, the Western Railway stopped issuing waitlisted AC tickets after it found a sudden surge in the booking of outstation train tickets. By evening, however, the cap on waitlist was withdrawn and tickets were being issued.

Both the Central and Western Railway (WR) witnessed a surge in the number of long-distance tickets being booked. In one case, the CR recorded two major ticket bookings of Rs1.77lakh — a passenger had booked six tickets on the Delhi-Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani, and his brother booked tickets on the Delhi-Chennai Rajdhani simultaneously.

Generally, average ticketing sales for the WR in the off season is Rs85 lakh to Rs90 lakh — this touched Rs1.79 crore on Wednesday. The CR’s long-distance ticketing sale rose to Rs1.72crore from Rs1.2crore.
