The BMC has targetted NGO Praja, Kapil Sharma and RJ Malishka for taking a dig at them

While the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is facing flak from the opposition for sending a notice to RJ Malishka’s house for criticising the civic body, this is not the first time celebrities and organisations have faced BMC’s ire.

RJ Malishka’s video “Mumbai, tula BMC var bharavsa nahi ka?” (Mumbai, don’t you trust the BMC?) went viral last week inviting the ruling party’s ire. By Tuesday, Malishka found herself facing Sena’s demand of a defamation suit and a notice slapped on her residence in Bandra for mosquito-breeding.

Talking about Malishka’s case, BJP group leader in BMC, Manoj Kotak called BMC’s action “stupid and childish”. The BMC said that the notice was sent as a part of its routine survey and officials said that they did not know that the flat was owned by Malishka’s mother, Lily Mendonsa. Malishka has hit back at BMC, saying she has six more songs ready.

An NGO, the Praja foundation has been releasing reports on health, corporator performances etc every year. Last week, BMC issued a notice to NGO Praja Foundation for misrepresenting facts in their data on malnutrition in BMC schools. Calling NGO Praja’s report a farce to malign the public body, the deputy commissioner has demanded a public apology or threatened the NGO with legal action.
