Vandals broke a window of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express, while it was near the Boisar railway station, en route to the city. Railway authorities replaced the broken window and the railway protection force (RPF) registered a complaint.

Amid concerns over the safety of commuters, the Western Railway will install hidden cameras along the track to check incidents of stone pelting and catch the offenders.

Such cameras will be installed at sections of the railway tracks at Bhayander, Goregaon, Andheri, Mira Road, Vile Parle, Vasai Road, Nallasopara and Bandra, said officials.

“The glass window was replaced immediately. However, this is a serious incident and we have decided to speak to the people living near the railway tracks as part of the solution,” said Mukul Jain, divisional railway manager, Western Railway.

The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai has manufactured 10 Anubhuti coaches, each one at the cost of Rs2.84 crore. The coach used by the Western Railway is currently attached to the Mumbai –Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express. On the Central Railway, the coach is attached to the Secunderabad-Pune Shatabdi Express.
