The Worli police on Monday reunited a 14-year-old with his family in Nagpur, after he had fled home as his father refused to admit him to an Army school owing to financial reasons. The teenager, Gaurav Mishra, fled home on March 10. He first went to Delhi, and then to Mumbai. His family members filed a case of kidnapping at the Nagpur police station.
“Gaurav’s father worked as a security guard for a private firm. Gaurav was interested in joining the Indian military, and sought admission in an army school in Nagpur. However, his father refused to admit him as he was unable to afford the fees. Guarav got angry and left the residence without informing his family members,” said a police officer.
On March 28, Gaurav called his father from an unknown number and disconnected after briefly speaking to him. “On recognising Gaurav’s voice, his father called back on the number. The owner of the phone said he was in Worli and a boy had requested to use his phone to make a call,” said Jitendra Pawar, senior police inspector, Worli police station.
The father then approached the local police in Worli on Monday. “We began searching at Worli and found the boy at Haji Ali. He was identified by the father and then handed over to his family,” said Pawar.
