Thane newborn abduction: Police to take blood samples of 5 kids found in accused’s house

Police suspect other children are kidnapped too, though the arrested woman claims they are hers; blood samples to be sent to forensic lab

A day after three people were arrested for kidnapping a newborn, the six children found in their Kalyan house will undergo DNA test.

Although the accused claimed that the children were theirs, the Thane police will take the blood samples and send them to a forensic lab. The report will take almost a week.

On Sunday, six hours after a 19-year-old woman, Mohini Bhovar, delivered a boy, a woman came to her saying her mother-in-law was asking for the baby. The mother gave her the baby. The accused fled with the baby. Within 24 hours, the police managed to find the baby and arrested Gudiya Rajbhar, 35, her husband Sonu, 40, and their relative Vijay Shrivastav, 55.

When police raided their house at Pisavli village in Kalyan, they saw the six children working. Two were cleaning the floor, one was looking after a two-month-old baby, one was cleaning utensils and one was cooking food.

“We have made a list of children kidnapped in the past five years and we are questioning the accused to know if they have abducted or sold babies,” said a police officer from Thane crime branch.

He added that they were scrutiniting the CCTV footages of other civil hospital and maternity homes if the accused were seen there.

On Tuesday, two couples whose children were kidnapped came to the police station to get information after the incident.

WHAT HAPPENED

Mohini Bhovar delivered a baby boy on Saturday at 10.15pm and was shifted to labour ward on the ground floor.

On Sunday around 3am, Gudiya Rajbhar went to Bhovar and told her that her mother wanted to see the child. Bhovar did not suspect anything as she had seen the woman talking to her mother.

When Bhovar realised that her child was missing, she alerted the hospital authorities.

The police went through the CCTV footage and saw a woman carrying the baby.

The three accused went to Thane railway station and boarded a train. They reached CSTM around 4.56am. They took a Kalyan-bound train and got down at Dombivli.

Police trace them to Pisavli village in Kalyan and arrest them on Monday. They found the baby wrapped in paper and kept on a gunny bag which was also covered with a paper.
