Two Mumbai lifeguards save trio from drowning at Aksa beach

The trio, all residents of Malwani area, are safe and stable.

Two lifeguards saved three men from drowning near Aksa beach on Wednesday morning. The men were drinking in the rocky portion of the beach, claimed one of the lifeguards who rescued them.

The incident took place on the border of Aksa beach and Dana Pani beach. The three men, identified as Altaf Shaikh, 30, Suraj Prajapati,25, and Sarfaraz Shaikh, 24, were sitting on the rocky portion during low tide. The men arrived there some time between 6.30 am and 7 am, life guards at the Aksa beach told police after rescuing them.

“The men continued to sit there even as the water levels began to rise around them. When the high tide started, one of them suggested they leave. One of them tried to swim through, but couldn’t do so, and the other two pulled him up,” said Swatej Kolamkar, life guard at the beach.

Kolamkar was accompanied by Nathuram Suryavanshi when they went with rings and two life jackets to pull the trio out to safety.
