Upset over father’s opposition to love affair, man hires criminals to ‘get him killed’ in Mumbai suburb

The Mumbra police have arrested the son and five others, while three more men are absconding.

A 28-year-old man from Thane was arrested for allegedly giving a Rs 2-lakh contract to get his father killed who was against his love affair. The Mumbra polce have arrested five others, while three men, including a man who was externed, are sill absconding. Abdul Choudhary, 49, is in a critical condition.

The six arrested men were identified as Jamil Chaudhari,28, son of Abdul, Jagdish Yadav, 20, Pratik Titme,24, Pawan Mishra,25, Pranav Waydande,,25, Mayur Karande, 27 — all residents of Thane.

Abdul, who is a scarp dealer and has a shop in Kausa area of Mumbra in Thane, was attacked on September 9.

“A few unidentified people initially threw stones at his car while he was heading to his shop. When came out to his car, he was surrounded by eight people. Before he could react, they attacked him with rods, sticks and sharp weapons. He was also stabbed. The attackers fled from the spot,” said an officer from Mumbra police station.

Some local residents took him to a nearby hospital.

During questioning, the police found many loopholes in his statement and learnt about his frigid relationship with his father over the love affair. They questioned his friends to verify their suspicion.

The police first arrested Yadav, Mishra and Titme from Wagle Estate on Thursday, while Waydande and Karande were held from Kisan Nagar, and Jamil from Mumbra the following day.

“Jamil was upset with his father who was opposed to his relationship with a girl. His father asked him to end the relationship,” added officer.

Jamil, who knew few criminals in the area, went to Wagle Estate in August and met Bahadur Mehra, a hardened criminal in the area . Mehra, who was externed from Thane and Navi Mumbai, was ready to kill Jamil’s father in Rs2 lakh, said the police. “We are looking for Mehra, Avdesh Yadav and Zakir Hazuri,” said officer.
