Vakola murder: Police likely to question person who sold phone to inspector’s killer son

Mumbai city news: The 21-year-old had, during an argument with his mother, stabbed her 12 times on her neck, chest and hands. He was arrested from a Jodhpur hotel on Thursday.

The city police are likely to record the statement of the person who sold a phone mobile to Siddhant Ganore, the 21-year-old son of an inspector, who fled after killing his mother.

As per investigation, the police found that Siddhant had thrown away his old phone and bought a new one to evade them. The police are now trying to find out where he bought the phone from and if he purchased a new sim card as well.

Officers are relying on CCTV footage from various places such as Borivli, Surat and Jodhpur railway station to reconstruct a map of his travels across three states while on the run. An officer said that they would also check CCTV footage from the mobile phone store and the hotel where Siddhant stayed the night.

He would also be taken to his Vakola apartment where he stabbed his mother Dipali to death, said the officer. The police have recovered the knife, collected evidence from the apartment and sent them for a forensic test at Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory.

Siddhant had not appeared for his first year BSC examination and his results were out a few days ago. When his mother inquired about his report card, he made up excuses. But on Wednesday, around 1pm the same argument broke out and in a fit of rage, Siddhant decided to kill himself and rushed into the kitchen for a knife. But when Dipali started screaming, Siddhant attacked her instead and stabbed her 12 times on her neck, chest and hands.

He then took a bath and changed his clothes and left home around 2pm throwing the house keys in the shoe rack. He left his phone behind and took away with him Rs2 lakh.

The police, however, managed to trace him to a hotel in Jodhpur and arrested him on Thursday.
