The state government on Wednesday said it will ensure that Zakir Naik-led Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) does not get any help, including financial assistance.

Deepak Kesarkar, minister of state for home, said the state government was determined to eliminate anti-social activities of the foundation. “It was necessary to block the funding utilised for anti-social activities. After the Centre’s ban, we will keep a close watch on the activities, so the institute or the people related to it don’t get funding,” he said.

According to officials from the home department, the government fears their activities will continue under another outfit by people affiliated to the banned organisation.

The Mazgaon based Islamic International school run by the IRF, too, will be under watch. Kesarkar said the government would not let the students suffer, but will ensure it is run as per government norms.

The government is likely to hand over the school to a minority institution.
