Workers cleaning nullah in Mumbai find₹10,000 in demonetised notes

MUMBAI CITY NEWS: While carrying out de-silting works at a drain near Thane railway station, the workers found a stash of old notes under a drain’s cover.

Officials believe there could be more notes hidden in the drain.

Balaji Haldekar, medical officer of TMC, said, “Our regular pre-monsoon nullah cleaning work is underway. Around 9.30am, the workers were cleaning a drain near a cabin,when they stumbled across several notes of Rs500 and Rs1,000. There were around Rs10,000 in demonetised notes inside a chamber.

“He added,W”e feel we might find a few more notes after opening other chamber cover of this drain. Some of
the banknotes might even have flowed into a bigger nullah.”

Haldekar said he has asked the official concerned to inform the Naupada police about the notes.

Since the Centre demonetised old notes of Rs500 and Rs1,000 last November, the Thane police have caught many people with such notes.

Officials said that the notes may have been discarded by residents who feared being caught with them.
