NAGPUR : The Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on Tuesday denied parole to underworld don Arun Gawli for taking care of his wife during her surgery in Mumbai. While disposing of a petition, a division bench of the court comprising justice Bhushan Dharmadhikari and justice Atul Chandurkar said it was unclear if his wife would need surgery after all. However, the bench allowed him to approach the court again if a date for the surgery fixed. The state strongly opposed granting parole and argued she was not so serious the petitioner had to visit Mumbai. During the hearing, the bench was informed doctors were yet to decide if his wife needed surgical intervention. Gawli approached the court when his application for a parole, citing his wife’s critical illness that required surgery, was rejected by the division commissioner, Anup Kumar, recently. Before rejecting the plea, the divisional commissioner sought opinion from Mumbai police.

The Mumbai police informed that the Dagdi Chawl-based underworld don’s return might threaten law and order situation in the state capital and this led to the rejection of the application. He was earlier on parole in April for 28 days .

He is undergoing life imprisonment for the murder of Shiv Sena corporator Kamalakar Jamsandekar.
