A 27-year-old married woman was allegedly shot dead by her lover in Sewri on Wednesday evening.
According to the police, the victim, Samina Kalim Khan, was having an extra-marital affair with Abbas Bihari, 30, a truck driver, for the past seven years.
The Sewri police said Khan and Bihari had met near a temple, located few meters away from the police station at 7.30pm.
They began chatting, which soon turned into a heated argument. In a fit of rage, Bihari allegedly pulled out a country-made firearm and shot Khan in the head. The bullet hit her above the right ear, the police said, adding that Bihari fled from the spot.
Passers-by hailed a taxi and took the victim to the police station. The officials then rushed her to JJ Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
The police said Khan is survived by her husband of eight years, Kalim Moin, 28, also a truck driver, and her four children.
“Kalim and Abbas are friends as they both are truck drivers and reside at Kavlabunder slums,” said Baliram Chavan, assistant inspector, Sewri police station.
“Khan’s husband was in Silvassa to deliver some goods when the incident took place. He, however, had found out about their affair a few months ago. We have recorded his statement and are trying to trace Bihari,” said Chavan, adding that no eyewitnesses have come forward at the moment.

{{/usCountry}}The police have registered a case under section 302 (murder) and 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.
