Five students walking home from school at Parel helped take a 28-year old man hit by a car to a hospital on Friday afternoon. On spotting Dinesh Jadhav lying bleeding on the road near the Parel bridge, the boys stopped a cab and took him to KEM Hospital.

“We saw a crowd gathered at the accident site. People were just standing there but no one was willing to take the injured man to the hospital,” said Pankaj Khadu, 14.

Khadu and his four friends – Prakash Wagh, Milind Gaikwad, Tanmay Shinde, Shubham Salvi got Jadhav admitted to the hospital where he was treated for a leg injury.

Despite the hospital’s resident doctors being on strike, on hearing about the boys’ good-samaritan act, doctors provided immediate treatment to Jadhav.

The private taxi, which had hit Jadhav who was walking on the road, had stopped on the spot but the driver refused to take him to the hospital. A passenger who got down from the private taxi gave the students Rs 20 to pay for the cab to take Jadhav to the hospital.
