The Bombay High Court on Tuesday sought an undertaking from the restaurant and bar that it will abide by all norms, especially playing music.

A resident of Mamta building, Syed Aris Waris Ali, moved the high court against the civic body granting permission for a pub in a residential building.

On Tuesday, his lawyer Ashok Sarogi said that the restaurant had encroached upon almost all open spaces of the building.

“Liquor is being served in our open space, where young couples are often seen dancing till early morning,” he added.

Sarogi added that a licence for a pub could not have been granted in a residential building as it is inconveniencing the building residents.

Senior lawyer Jimmy Pochkhanwala, arguing for Zenzi, refuted the charges saying there was no pub and no norms were being flouted.

“It’s a simple restaurant and there is no question of causing nuisance,” he said.

The petition will come up for hearing after two days.
