CM inks deal for security on Metro

Chavan is on a 12-day foreign tour to the US, Singapore and Malaysia along with senior officials from the state secretariat and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). He will be focusing on issues of public transport and housing during his tour there.

The first corridor of the Metro, from Versova to Ghatkopar via Andheri, and the monorail from Jacob Circle to Chembur via Wadala will be operational by next year.

The memorandum of co-operation with the institute will make way for crisis management on transport corridors besides sharing of information on security arrangements, training for Metro and monorail staffers on security.

Before the operation of the corridors, the institute will carry out an audit on the security measures taken. MMRDA already has an agreement with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) of the US for security know how and FTA officials were present of this meet.“These security arrangements can be then incorporated for BEST as well as State Transport,’’ said Chavan.

He also visited the Bus Rapid Transit System route in LA and has a discussion on planning for long distance transport systems.
