Conman cheated man of Rs 1.8 lakh, caught on CCTV

A CCTV camera installed in the bank has captured an image of the suspected accused, the Kalachowki police said.

The police said the incident took place around 10am when Prashant Bandagle, an employee at a publication house, had gone to deposit cash at Mahanagar Cooperative bank at Lalbaug.

The police said Bandagle goes to the bank every day to deposit his employers’ daily earnings.

The police suspect that the accused knew Bandagle visited the bank daily.

In his statement to the police, Bandagle said, “I was waiting to deposit money when a well- dressed man came up to me and said my employers had sent him to deposit Rs3 lakh more.

He also pretended to take instructions from them over the phone.”

Bandagle added that the duo then went outside to wait for the next installment of cash.

“During this time, the accused entered the bank stealthily and stole the bag,” Bandagle said.

When the accused did not turn up for a long time, Bandagle approached the Kalachowki police.

“We have registered a case of cheating and are investigating further,” said SS Jain senior inspector from the Kalachowki police station.
