Since October 14, CR has been facing problems due to technical snags and scheduled maintenance. While Friday, was turning out to be the first day in a week when CR could run services without delays, a Karjat-bound train was cancelled at Matunga station late in the night.

One of the motor cabins of the train, which started from CST at 10.18pm, reportedly started making some noise after the train crossed Dadar. “At Matunga, the train had halted for around 20 minutes before the railways made an announcement about the train generating a technical snag and being cancelled,” said a commuter, who was aboard the train.

The services on the route were delayed by 20 minutes resulting into crowding at all stations after Matunga. Ambernath resident Ramesh Tripathi said: “I could not board trains at Matunga, after the Karjat train was cancelled. I went back to Parel and boarded the next Ambernath train.”

AK Singh, PRO, CR, said, “We don’t have any record of rake failure or cancellation. We need to verify it. Intensive efforts to reduce technical snags are being taken.”

Commuters say they would stage protests if CR’s technical snags continue. Subhash Gupta, ex-member of National Railway Users Consultative Council, said: “Railways should not test our patience. Such disturbances would lead to protests.”
