You will have to shell out at least Rs. 15-Rs. 20 more for the Dadar-Pune journey in air conditioned Shivneri or Sheetal buses of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) from September 27.
State transport authority has approved an average 5.88% fare hike to MSRTC because of the recent hike in diesel price.
The new fare hike will be applicable on all MSRTC buses from midnight on September 27.
With this fare hike Dadar-Pune and Thane-Pune Shivneri bus fare will be Rs. 355 instead of existing Rs. 340, while Sheetal passengers will have to shell out Rs. 260 instead of Rs. 245. Borivli-Pune Shivneri bus fare will be Rs. 435.
“Although the price of diesel was hiked by Rs. 5 a litre, it is actually costing us Rs. 6.27 a litre including taxes. Therefore, our daily expenditure on diesel has gone up by Rs73 lakh and annual expenditure is estimated to be around Rs. 264 crore,” said a senior MSRTC official.
He said the corporation was not going to make any profit out of this fare hike, as it would only just mitigate the burden owing to the diesel price hike.
