Locals say Mahim land meant for playground sold to builder

They alleged that a plot of land, mean to be used as a playground and for the residents’ recreation, was sold to a builder who intends to build two towers on the plot.

St Michael’s Church, Mahim, owns the land on which the colony that is home to 112 people stands.

“As per the Maharashtra Ownership Flats Act (MOFA), the ownership of the land needs to be transferred to the residents of the two wings in the society,” said Advocate A.M. Sodder (45), secretary of the society.

“Instead, it was sold to a builder without the knowledge of the higher church authorities.” Residents said they have sent several emails to the Archbishop's office regarding the issue but received no response. Meetings with senior church leaders also did not help. The Archbishop’s office was closed and could not be contacted for a comment.
