Maharashtra medical CET results out today

While students are aware of their individual scores after their OMR sheets were made public last week, the results will give a clear idea on how many students will be eligible for medical and engineering seats in the state

The Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) will announce the results of the Maharashtra- Common Entrance Test (MH-CET) results on Wednesday. Scores in the test will decide admissions to government-run medical and dental institutes. Aspirants to seats in the private and deemed universities will have to take the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), which will be held on July 24.

While students already know about their individual scores after their optical mark reader (OMR) answer sheets were made public last week, the results will set a merit ranking and give a clear idea on how many students will be eligible for medical and engineering seats in the state.

On May 24, the DMER had released the OMR sheets of 3.97 lakh candidates who took the MH-CET on May 5. Rishab Rawat, 17, from Mumbai scored a perfect 200 in the medical stream, based on the OMR sheets. In the 20 government-run medical and dental institutes in the state, all the 2,810 seats are up for grabs based on the MH-CET scores.

This year, the Supreme Court made it mandatory for medical and dental aspirants seeking a seat in private medical and dental institutes to take the NEET, as their CET scores would not be considered. This has left many students anxious as MH-CET follows the state board syllabus while NEET follows the CBSE syllabus. Students are worried that they will now have to go through the entire CBSE syllabus in two months to be able to take the NEET in July.
